As we prepare for NHL action, a heavy atmosphere settles over the 2024-25 season. Players, teams & fans honor the Gaudreau brother's memory

With the NHL preseason well underway, and only a few weeks before opening night kicks off, teams, fans and players from across the league continue to honor the memories of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.

"I'm going to keep his memory alive" claimed former Calgary Flames teammate and longtime friend, Matthew Tkachuk. Many NHL players are dedicating their season to the beloved Gaudreau's and their entire family. The Gaudreau brothers were American hockey staples, with Johnny being one of the NHL's brightest stars. Above all else, they were fathers, brothers, sons, friends and teammates who were taken from this world way too early.

While we have fun watching our teams pursue their dream of winning the Stanley Cup this season, I can't help but feel like there will be a heaviness in the air in arenas throughout North America. It's also time for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets to raise #13 to the rafters!

“Ever since I left Calgary and came to Florida, all I ever do is tell stories about Johnny. At one point, I was probably telling the guys down here a Johnny story once a week. I was always talking about him, about something funny he had done, something he had done in practice, whatever. He was the kind of guy that you could never get out of your mind, and I hated being away from him.”
