We're here folks. It's National Championship day, a five verse four seed matchup, the first to ever happen at the final game. SDSU against UConn. Some are saying that this is a David verse Goliath matchup. First off, the 9:20 tip off time is brutal. It's a Monday night, come on now?
I digress.
The Connecticut Huskies are playing some of the best basketball on the big stage. While the San Diego State Aztecs have completed final minute comebacks and 1-point victories in each of its last 2 games. We are in for a battle tonight.
It all comes down to this, and I present you with my picks.
Moneyline: SDSU (+290) | UCONN (-400)
My Pick: UConn ML
I feel like this one is going to bite me (I am sorry yet again Chris Thedinga), but I have to go with UConn. It's safe to say The UConn Huskies have been the most dominant team in the entire tournament. They have won five straight games by double-digits, led by Adama Sanogo, who has been UConn's leading scorer in three of those five wins.
Spread: San Diego State +7.5 (-110) | UConn -7.5 (-118)
My Pick: San Diego State +7.5
The chalk pick around the country has been UConn, and I don't disagree, however, I don't think it's going to be a blowout. The Aztecs have the size and physicality to keep this game in check, and will use that to help slow down the pace of the match. SDSU is one of the nation's best at defending shots, especially beyond the arc. I also love what I am seeing from Matt Bradley, who scored 21 points Saturday, and is the team's leading scorer at 12.7 points per game.
Total: 132.5 – Over (-110) | Under (-118)
My Pick: Under 132.5
The combined record in the last five games for the Over is 1-9 with these two teams. They both play at a slightly-slower-than-average pace, San Diego State is an elite perimeter defense and both teams don't shoot a lot of free throws, I think the under is at play here.
