Thank you Christian Vaquez! From catching the final pitch of the 2018 World Series, to the improved offense from 2019-2022, you have been an important part of the Boston Red Sox success, and it has been fun to watch you grow into one of the best backstops in the league. Good luck in H-Town.
Personally, I love this move by Boston. Yes, it hurts, but it is a good trade. Vazquez is a free agent after this season, and they got 2 of the Astros top 30 prospects,#28 AAA IN/OF, Enmanuel Valdez, and #29 AA OF Wilyer Abreu, and both of them have been raking on the farm.
The Sox also got OF Tommy Pham from the Reds in a separate trade for a player-to-be-named-later, and traded LHP Jake Diekman to the White Sox for C Reese McGuire. The Pham move makes little sense to me as he is a FA after this year, but I like the McGuire one, as he is under team control for 4 more years and is a great defender.
Overall I’ll miss Christian, but this had to happen and I like the overall haul so far.
