Bracketing the Big East

Could Villanova make another run after the team's Final Four appearance last year? Credit: CHARLES FOX / Staff Photographer

Selection Sunday is somehow only a week away! I got to sit down with Chris Dobbertean from Blogging the Bracket to discuss where each Big East team could find itself in the bracket.

Marquette and UConn are currently at the top of the Big East in the seed list, only a hair apart. The two teams could face each other on Friday of the Big East Tournament with the winner ending up in the East region with a chance to return to Madison Square Garden for the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Xavier is just behind Marquette and UConn, with the team's Quadrant 3 losses dragging it down. The Musketeers could very well draw a familiar March foe in the Round of 32 should they win their opening matchup.

Preseason favorite Creighton is also a lock to make the tournament, slotting in a few seed lines below Xavier. Due to the strength of the Big 12 and SEC, the Bluejays could find themselves out in the West region this year, with their path to the Final Four headed through Las Vegas.

Providence has tumbled down the bracket with recent losses, but the team still remains in the field. The Friars avoid a First Four game, but the team could see a tough second round matchup should it get there.

Finally, while Villanova's at-large hopes may be doomed, the Wildcats are looking to put together a run at MSG. What does recent precedent tell Chris about where the team would land should it win the conference? Listen to find out!
