Can I get a "USA, USA" in the chat?
Welcome back to Breakfast with the Americans, and if you made it this far, we are here to recap Team USA's quest to defend their title. The first game has been completed, and we got a W under our belt.
Let's address the elephant in the room before we recap the win. Prior to the matchup, Team USA did get a chance to get an exhibition game in prior to the WBC Opener. It kind of was brushed under the rug, and rightfully so, because the United States lost to the San Francisco Giants in crappy fashion. David Villar went 2-3 with a homer. Mitch Haniger had two doubles. San Fran knocked in 5 runs on 10 hits in the win. It was hard to say if USA was trying or not, but they got embarrassed on Twitter. They quickly made the loss yesterdays news with a 6-0 win over teh Angels. Again, take it with a grain of salt...
I bring this up, because the Untied States did just win, it still wasn't pretty. Sorry to damper the mood, but USA was heavy favorites, and snuck out of the game by only a score of 6-2. Their best players on the team is probably Trayce Thompson, so it's kind of head scratching.
Thompson led the game with a home run off of Adam Wainwright and the United States were held scoreless for the first two innings. Again, baseball is a long and enduring sport, so not too worry, but also, should we be worried?
Finally, USA got some momentum with an RBI double by Arenado, Then Kyle Schwarber absolutely nuked a homer, to give the States a comfortable lead.
The top eight hitters in the lineup all reached base at least once. Waino had four strikeouts on four innings pitched. Arenado went 3-5 with 2 RBI's. Solid win, but we gotta be better.
On Deck, we have a clash with Mexico on FS1 on Sunday night at 10 ET. Let's make it two in a row...
