Team USA is officially on the board. Their first medal came on Saturday, when Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook took home silver in the 3m synchronized springboard diving compeition. The American duo scored 314.64 points, which put them firmly in second place behind Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen of China.
The Americans boast twelve medals as of Monday morning, with plenty of opportunies this week to capture more. The Women's Gymnastic Team sits at the top of the table, and are heavy favorites to take home the gold, thanks to Simone Biles topping the all-around standings.
In other news, the United States are known for their basketball and swimming, but the Women's Water Polo is a sneaky powerhouse team that is now getting some more pop culture attention. They are currently on their quest for their fourth consecutive gold medal, Flavor Flav has officially become the sports "hype man".
As for basketball, LeHistory lead the Americans across the river to open the Olympic games. Kevin Durant put on his Carmelo Anthony cape and dropped 23 points in the opener, and the NBA community was left shocked that Coach Steve Kerr opted to not play Jayson Tatum, despite the United States defeating Serbia 110-84.
