CBB Picks Card - Tuesday, February 14th

The Power Fives are showing out on Valentine's Day. Bet responsibly!

I went a solid 4-4 last night with Texas dropping a disappointing one against Texas Tech in the wee hours of Monday evening. But the Charleston, South Alabama, Delaware and Bucknell victories salvaged my evening.

Here's today's card - wager responsibly.

Pick Notes

  • Rutgers is one of many teams in the Big Ten that can't figure out its identity. They have monster wins over Purdue and Indiana - with solid wins scattered throughout their schedule - but stinker losses to Seton Hall (45-43 back in December), a less-than-ideal Ohio State, and even Temple. But one thing is for sure - they are not as bad as Nebraska, who - with the exception of Saturday's win over Wisconsin - has not been competitive in a game since they lost to Ohio State by three in January. Now, back at the RAC, I like Rutgers to take care of business and cruise to victory over the Huskers.

  • This is an interesting night in the Big East. I am staying away from Providence-Creighton, simply because I have no idea how it will end up. And the same goes for Georgetown-Seton Hall, because the Hoyas have been covering spreads lately and the Pirates are on a bit of a skid. I like Butler to at least keep it close with Villanova - the Bulldogs have some wind in their sail after wins over St. John's and nationally-ranked Xavier, while Villanova can't really figure out what it wants to be this year. It's a recipe for Villanova to win, but not by much. As for St. John's, don't overthink this one - their last meeting was a 19-point SJU win, and the Demons are on a six-game skid.

  • The Over isn't where America is going for Utah State-Air Force in some Mountain West action, but I like them to eclipse 137.5 in this one. Utah State has had some enormous offensive outputs lately, and Air Force just picked off New Mexico 89-77 on Friday night.

Lock: NC State Money Line vs. Syracuse

NC State has an impressive body of work right now. Their losses are all to high-quality opponents - UNC, Virginia, Clemson, Miami, Pitt, and Kansas are their six stumbles so far. They're 9-2 since the turn of the New Year. Unfortunately for 'Cuse, the JMA Wireless Dome is no longer the place where teams fear; the only thing they expect is for Jim Boeheim to go on an old-man rant. Give me the Wolfpack as the sure lock today.
