Connor McDavid has already won the Hart Memorial Trophy and it isn’t even close

As per usual, Connor McDavid is the talk of the hockey world.

Quite possibly the best player the game has seen since Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton Oilers Captain Connor McDavid is setting the league on fire. McDavid scored his 49th and 50th goals of the season on Monday in a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins. This is McDavid's first 50 goal season of his career, and it's only February 28th. Oh my.

Perhaps even more impressive than his 50 goals is his 115 points. You heard that right, Connor McDavid has one-hundred and fifteen points through 61 games played. McDavid's reaction to this achievement? "It's a nice number." The running joke amongst hockey fans is that McDavid is an emotionless robot who was crafted in a laboratory, and his only programming is to be the best ever. His lukewarm reaction to his astonishing 115 point total only solidifies the "joke."

McDavid's 50 goals through 61 games played makes him the fastest active player to reach the 50 mark, and is the first player to score 50 goals before the month of March since Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Alexander Mogilny did so in the 1995-96 season.

This man is the most dominant athlete in the world at his sport. You can throw Patrick Mahomes in my face, Luka Doncic or Jayson Tatum or Giannis Antetokounmpo, Aaron Judge, or even Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. None of them hold a candle to what McDavid is doing at this point in time. We haven't seen a player this dominant since the days of Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, players who are considered the two best to ever do it.
