Dan Monson has been at the coaching game for quite some time. The 4x Big West Coach of the Year has been at the helm at Long Beach State since 2007, but found out this week that this season would be his last with the team.
On March 11, 2024, the school announced that they would be parting ways with Monson at the end of the season. On March 16th, Monson helped guide the team back to the tournament for the first time since 2012.
Talk about a story. I can't imagine what's going on inside the Coach's head, let alone the players. They fought for him in this Big West tournament, and now they have a chance to extend his tenure in the Big Dance.
Side note, I don't understand why these types of decisions can't be made until the actual end of the season. It's crazy that they can't announce this in a couple of days to him, but I guess the news provided a spark for the team.
ESPN's Joe Lunardi, has Long Beach State facing up against Arizona, who played themselves out of the Pac-12 tournament quickly. Could we get a 15-2 upset, which leads Munson to play against potentially Gonzaga (his former employer as well)?
The narratives are crazy, but this is why we love March!
