DMV Star of the Week - Brendan Adams

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is George Washington guard Brendan Adams.

Adams is having an outstanding year with the Colonials. The 6 '4 senior out of Baltimore, MD is averaging 17.5 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds per game 2.6 assists per game, while shooting 47% from the field.

He’s made a monumental jump from last season, when he averaged just over 8 points per game for GW and is a huge reason why the Colonials are off to a hot 5-3 start in conference play.

This past week, Adams led George Washington in scoring in both games, scoring 18 in Saturday’s loss at Fordham and dropping a career-high 32 points in Wednesday’s 92-91 overtime win over Saint Joseph’s.

“I’m really happy for Adams because of the way he works, the way he carries himself, the attitude he has,” George Washington Head Coach Chris Caputo said after the win. “I think when you look at his career, he hasn’t really put it all together, well now he’s putting it together.”

Amazingly, Adams is GW’s second leading scorer this season, behind two-time DMV Star of the Week James Bishop IV.

With two prolific scoring options, the Colonials are poised to be the surprise story of the Atlantic 10 conference, looking to make it back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014.

The DMV saw seven teams in action this past week, including the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, and the Georgetown, George Washington, Maryland, American and Howard basketball teams.

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma scored 30+ in two of the Wizards’ three games this week, including 30 in a 127-126 win over Dallas and 33 in a 108-103 win over Houston

  • Georgetown’s Primo Spears averaged 23 points across two games for the Hoyas this week, including a 21 point performance in Georgetown’s first Big East win of the season

  • Maryland guard Jahmir Young scored 22 points in Wednesday’s 73-55 win over Wisconsin, adding 8 rebounds and 5 assists

  • Howard guard Elijah Hawkins had a double-double in Saturday’s 71-67 win over North Carolina Central, scoring 17 points and adding 10 assists with 5 rebounds
