Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Howard Basketball Guard Bryce Harris.
In two wins this past week for the Bison, the 6’4” junior had back-to-back double doubles, scoring 20 points and bringing in 16 rebounds in the win over Coppin State on Monday, following it up with a 16 points/10 rebounds performance in Saturday’s win over Maryland Eastern Shore.
Harris has scored in double figures for the Bison in 16 straight games, only failing to do so in three of Howard’s 29 games this season.
Now, Howard has just two games to go before the team heads to the MEAC Tournament in Norfolk, VA, where a bid to the NCAA Tournament will be on the line as the Bison look to make back-to-back appearances in the Big Dance.
The DMV saw eight teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, D.C. United, and the Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, and American basketball teams
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
D.C. United Winger Kristian Fletcher scored the game-tying goal to secure a crucial point in Saturday’s comeback 2-2 draw against Portland
Georgetown’s Supreme Cook scored 15 points and brought in 14 rebounds in the Hoyas’ loss vs. Xavier on Saturday
