DMV Star of the Week - Deni Avdija

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Washington Wizards Forward Deni Avdija.

The 6’9” former first round pick in 2020 had a career-high 43 points in Wednesday’s 133-126 loss to New Orleans, adding 15 rebounds to finish off his third double double in his last four games.

Avdija finished 6-10 from three in the game and 13-24 from the field. He previously had not made more than four three’s in a game all season.

It’s just his third season in the league, and the Wizards currently have the second worst record in the NBA, but Avdija has put together perhaps his best stretch of play in his young career and could be a key piece to a potential rebuild looking toward the seasons ahead.

The DMV saw seven teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, and American basketball teams

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
