Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Maryland women’s basketball guard Diamond Miller.
There are two very legit college basketball teams in College Park that are a combined 15-2 overall and Diamond Miller is the best player on the women’s team and probably the best player between the two teams.
She earned DMV Star of the Week thanks to an outrageous performance on the road against #7 Notre Dame this past Thursday night.
Miller scored 31 points on the night and added 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals.
Most notably, however, she knocked down the game winner at the buzzer to hand the Fighting Irish its first loss of the season and earn the Terrapins a signature win.
“We’re just going to keep growing the game, and people need to watch us because we all can ball and we all are talented,” Miller said following the massive 74-72 victory.
The senior guard from Somerset, NJ is averaging over 18 points and 7 rebounds per game and has led the team in scoring in half its games.
Long way to go this year, but Maryland basketball is off to a flying start!
The DMV saw eight teams in action this past week, including The Washington Commanders, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, and the Georgetown, George Washington, Maryland, American and Howard basketball teams.
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin caught 8 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s 20-20 tie against the New York Giants
Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin scored 2 goals in Tuesday’s 5-1 win over Vancouver
Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne recorded two sacks in Sunday’s tie against the New York Giants
Wizards center Kristaps Porzingis scored 41 points in last Monday’s 142-127 win over Minnesota. He scored at least 21 points in all four games last week
American basketball guard Geoff Sprouse scored 25 points in AU’s 88-62 win over Albany on Tuesday
GW basketball guard James Bishop scored 24 points and added 8 assists in Wednesday’s emphatic 79-55 win over South Carolina
