Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week Award goes to George Washington Basketball guard Gerald Drumgoole.
In two games this past week, Drumgoole scored 20+ points in each.
First, in Tuesday’s loss to Richmond on the road, the 6’5” senior scored 27 points in 27 minutes, including shooting 7-13 from three.
Then, in Saturday’s dominant victory over the Dayton Flyers in D.C., Drumgoole put up 21 points on 7-16 shooting, including 5-12 from three to go along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
Thanks to Drumgoole, GW is now 12-3 on the year and 1-1 in the conference.
The DMV saw eight teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Georgetown, George Washington, Maryland, Howard, and American basketball teams.
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
Washington Commanders Quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for another score in Sunday’s 23-19 win over Dallas.
Washington Wizards guard Jordan Poole played in two games this past week, scoring 30 points in a win over the Bulls and 26 two nights later in a loss to New Orleans.
Georgetown guard Malik Mack scored a season-high 26 points in Friday night’s win over Xavier in D.C.
Howard guard Blake Harper scored 34 points in Saturday’s 100-94 win over Delaware State.
