Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star’s of the Week is Howard Football Quarterback Ja’Shawn Scroggins.
The 6’3” sophomore quarterback out of Las Vegas put together his best game as a Bison in Saturday’s dominant 38-0 win over Delaware State.
In the win, Scroggins accounted for all five of Howard’s touchdowns, throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for another.
Through the air, he finished 24/41 for 304 yards and those 4 touchdowns, including two to Kasey Hawthorne, who finished with 9 catches for 105 yards to go along with two scores.
On the ground, Scroggins rushed for 60 yards on 8 carries and a score, leading Howard to victory and moving the Bison to a 4-5 overall record, securing the first conference win of the year.
The DMV saw six teams in action this past week, including the Washington Commanders, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, Washington Spirit, and the Howard and Maryland football teams.
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
Washington Commanders Quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 15/22 passes for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns in Sunday’s 27-22 win over the Giants.
Washington Wizards Forward Kyle Kuzma scored 25 points while hauling in 11 rebounds and dishing out 7 assists in Monday’s 121-119 win over Atlanta.
