DMV Star of the Week - Jarett Hunter

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Howard football running back Jarett Hunter.

The junior running back had a dominant three touchdown performance in Saturday’s 28-14 victory over South Carolina State.

Hunter had 12 carries for 149 yards and scored one rushing touchdown, averaging over 12 yards per rush. He added 3 catches for 43 yards and two scores.

The touchdown catches were his first two of the season. It was also his first ever 100 yard rushing game as a Bison, clearly marking his best ever game in a Howard uniform.

Howard has one game to go this year as they look to finish strong against Morgan State.

The DMV saw ten teams in action this past week, including The Washington Commanders, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, Maryland and Howard University football teams and the Georgetown, George Washington, Maryland, American and Howard basketball teams.

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Georgetown guard Primo Spears scored 49 points this week for the Hoyas. He poured in 28 in the win over Coppin State and 21 against Green Bay, adding 9 rebounds and 9 assists between the two games

  • Washington Capitals’ Sonny Milano scored 2 goals and added an assist in Washington’s 5-1 win over Tampa Bay on Friday night

  • Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma scored 36 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and added 6 assists in Washington’s 113-105 win over Dallas on Thursday

  • Georgetown Forward Akok Akok scored 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked 5 shots in the Hoyas 99-89 overtime win over Coppin State

  • Wizards center Kristaps Porzingis scored 31 points and secured 10 rebounds in Washington’s 121-112 win over Utah on Saturday night
