Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week Award goes to Georgetown Guard Jayden Epps.
Georgetown is off to a 8-2 start thanks to a huge road win over the weekend against long-time rival Syracuse.
It’s Georgetown’s best start since 2017-18 when the squad started 10-1, and now Georgetown opens up Big East play this week as the Hoyas welcome Creighton to DC on Wednesday night.
The 75-71 win at Syracuse felt like a Georgetown team getting over the hump in winning a big road game, and it was the Hoyas star guard to lead the way.
Junior Guard Jayden Epps scored a game-high 27 points in the win, shooting an efficient 11-15 from the field, including 4-6 from three. Along with the outpouring on the scoresheet, Epps added 4 assists and 2 rebounds in the win.
Head Coach Ed Cooley’s group is finally performing at a higher level. The question now becomes whether they can keep this momentum going as the team enters conference play.
The DMV saw eight teams in action this past week, including the Washington Commanders, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Georgetown, George Washington, Maryland, Howard, and American basketball teams.
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns while leading the team with 66 rushing yards on 11 carries in Sunday’s 20-19 win over the Saints.
Washington Capitals Defenseman John Carlson had 3 assists in Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Buffalo.
Howard basketball guard Marcus Dockery scored 29 points and 27 points, respectively, in Howard’s back-to-back wins over Virginia Lynchburg and UNC Wilmington this past week.
