Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”
This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Washington Commanders defensive lineman, Jonathan Allen.
In Thursday’s 12-7 road victory over the Chicago Bears, Allen recorded four tackles, one sack, and an interception (the first of his 5+ year career).

The Allen interception came from Chicago quarterback Justin Fields in what would prove to be a pivotal moment in the game.
Late in the first quarter, The Bears faced a 2nd and goal from the Washington 5-yard line, where Fields had his pass ricochet off a helmet and into the arms of Allen, providing the first of two crucial turnovers to send Washington on its way to a huge road win.
The DMV saw five teams in action this past week, including The Washington Commanders, Washington Capitals, Maryland and Howard football teams, and preseason action for The Wizards
Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:
Capitals RW T.J. Oshie scored a team-high 3 points in the opening three games of the regular season, including a goal in the 3-1 win over Montreal on Saturday night, the Caps’ first win of the season.
Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. scored the first touchdown of his career in Thursday’s win over Chicago. His 4th quarter TD proved to be the game-winning score, improving Washington’s record to 2-4 on the year.
Maryland running back Roman Hemby ran for 107 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown in the Terps 38-33 win @ Indiana on Saturday. The win improved Maryland’s record to 5-2 and just one win away from becoming bowl eligible.
Capitals RW Anthony Mantha and LW Connor Sheary both scored two goals each in the Capitals opening three games of the regular season.
