DMV Star of the Week - JuJu Reese

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Maryland Basketball Forward JuJu Reese.

In Maryland’s 81-75 overtime win over Penn State on Wednesday, the junior forward scored 24 points on 7-11 shooting and hauled in 15 rebounds.

It was Reese’s fifth double-double of the year in the Terrapins first nine games.

On the year, Reese is averaging a double-double, 15.9 PPG and 10.2 RPG. His 10.2 rebounds per game average ranks 16th in the nation.

It’s been a slow start for Maryland, which is just 5-4 in the early part of the year, but if Reese can keep performing the way he is and he can get more offensive help from some of the other stars on the team, the Terps can easily get things going as the season progresses.

The DMV saw six teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington, and American basketball teams

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • George Washington Forward Garrett Johnson had a double-double in GW’s OT win over Navy on Tuesday, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 boards in the win

  • Maryland Guard Jahmir Young scored 28 points in the Terps OT win over Penn State on Wednesday night

  • Georgetown Forward Supreme Cook had a double-double on Saturday, scoring 16 points and hauling in 10 rebounds in the Hoyas 80-68 loss to Syracuse
