DMV Star of the Week - JuJu Reese

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performances. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance, and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Maryland Basketball Forward JuJu Reese

Reese has been a double-double machine for the Terrapins all season, leading what has otherwise been a largely dormant offense for Maryland, ranking 333rd in the country in scoring offense.

Reese, however, has been tremendous all season. This past week, the 6’9” junior had back-to-back double doubles in two Maryland losses.

First, he put up 19 points and 12 rebounds in Tuesday’s 56-53 loss to Rutgers. On Saturday, he followed it up with 13 points and 13 rebounds in a double-overtime loss on the road against Ohio State.

These games mark Reese’s 11th and 12th double-doubles of the season through 24 games, which is tied for 14th in the nation.

The Terps have undoubtedly had a frustrating season, with one of the nation’s best defenses hampered by an offense that has been inept all year.

However, with Reese in the lineup, Kevin Willard’s team always has a chance to pull off wins, they might just need more than him to cross the finish line.

The DMV saw seven teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, and American basketball teams.

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Washington Wizards Forward Deni Avdija had back-to-back double doubles this week, scoring 24 points and hauling in 11 rebounds against the Celtics on Friday and scoring 21 points and adding 13 rebounds in Washington’s 119-113 loss to the 76ers on Saturday night

  • Georgetown Forward Supreme Cook scored 20 points and brought in 11 rebounds in Wednesday’s loss to Seton Hall
