Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week Award goes to Maryland Terrapins Forward JuJu Reese.

This season, Maryland had struggled in playing away from College Park. This past week, however, the Terrapins finally got over the hump and secured two massive road victories, thanks in large part to the spectacular performance of Senior Forward Julian (JuJu) Reese.

In Thursday night’s win on the road against #17 Illinois, Reese had career high’s in both points and rebounds, scoring 27 points on 12-23 shooting while hauling in 17 rebounds and blocking three shots.

Following the monster 91-70 win over the ranked Illini, the Terps traveled to Bloomington on Sunday to take on Indiana at Assembly Hall.

In the nail-biting 79-78 win over the Hoosiers, Reese scored 14 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lift Maryland to its third straight win.

Reese now has nine double-doubles on the year, tied for 11th in college basketball.

Up next, the Terps have a huge game at home against a ranked Wisconsin Badgers team, with a chance to climb up the Big 10 standings with a win.

The DMV saw eight teams in action this past week, including the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the Georgetown, George Washington, Maryland, Howard, and American basketball teams.

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels threw for 255 yards and a touchdown with one interception to go along with a team-high 48 yards on 6 carries and a score in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game loss in Philadelphia.

  • Washington Commanders Tight End Zach Ertz caught 11 passes on Sunday for 104 yards in the loss.

  • Washington Wizards Forward Kyle Kuzma had 30 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s loss in Phoenix.

  • Washington Capitals Goalie Charlie Lindgren had yet another shutout in Thursday’s 3-0 win in Seattle, saving 22 shots in the game.

  • Georgetown Forward Thomas Sorber had 25 points in 15 minutes in the Hoyas’ loss to Providence on Saturday.

  • Georgetown Forward Micah Peavy had back-to-back monster games for Georgetown, scoring 24 points in the win over Villanova and adding another 27 points in Saturday’s loss @ Providence.

  • George Washington Forward Rafael Castro had 23 points and 7 rebounds in Wednesday’s loss to UMass, following up the performance with 21 points and 9 rebounds in Saturday’s win over Saint Louis.
