DMV Star of the Week - Lane Thomas

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star of the Week is Washington Nationals Left Fielder Lane Thomas

This past week, in six games for the Nats, Thomas batted .270 with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, and 8 RBI’s.

His best performance came in Friday’s emphatic 11-5 victory over the Rockies in Denver. In the win, Thomas went 3-6 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBI’s to help the Nats to a series win over Colorado.

On the year, Thomas has been a bit inconsistent at the plate, but is now coming off his best week of the season as Washington looks to get over the hump and rise above .500 and up from third place in the National League’s East Division.

The DMV saw four teams in action this past week, including the Washington Nationals, D.C. United, Washington Spirit, and Washington Mystics.

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Washington Spirit Winger Trinity Rodman scored her 4th goal of the season on Sunday in Washington’s 2-0 win over Gotham FC, helping the team to yet another victory to stay in 3rd place in the NWSL

  • Washington Mystics Guard Ariel Atkins scored 27 points in 35 minutes in Washington’s 88-81 loss to Indiana on Wednesday
