DMV Star of the Week - Tai Felton

Every week, across several sports, players around the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) shine in individual performance. Every Monday, I’d like to take a minute to highlight some of those performances, including what I view as the best performance and name that athlete the “DMV Star of the Week.”

This week’s DMV Star’s of the Week is Maryland football wide receiver Tai Felton

Perhaps the most prolific player currently on any DMV-area team, Felton is one of the best receivers in the country and put on yet another show in Saturday’s 38-20 win over Villanova.

In the win, Felton caught 14 passes from quarterback Billy Edwards for 157 yards and a touchdown.

With the win, Maryland moves to 3-1 on the year. In four games, Felton’s fewest receiving yards in a game is 117, with his best performance coming in week 1 with 178 yards and 2 touchdowns. In fact, he’s caught a touchdown in every game this season.

On the year, the senior receiver now has 604 yards receiving, good for 3rd in the nation. Along with that, he’s 2nd nationally in receptions (41) and tied for 4th in touchdown receptions (5).

The Terrapins passing attack has been prolific through the opening month of they season and it’s expected that with Tai Felton leading the way that will remain the case.

The DMV saw seven teams in action this past week, including the Washington Commanders, Washington Nationals, D.C. United, Washington Mystics, Washington Spirit, and the Howard and Maryland football teams

Here are some honorable mention performances for DMV Star of the Week:

  • Washington Nationals first baseman Joey Gallo had two 3 RBI games this past week, in a 7-6 loss against the Cubs on Thursday and in a 5-1 win over the Cubs on Saturday

  • Maryland football quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. completed 28/32 passes for 328 yards and 2 touchdowns and 1 interception in Saturday’s 38-20 win over Villanova
