Efeosa Oliogu held a ton of offers throughout his high school career, including Alabama, Maryland, Auburn, Illinois and many more. Oliogu joins a loaded Butler recruiting class that includes: Azavier “Stink” Robinson, Jack McCaffery, Jackson Keith and Colt Langdon (he’s on the roster now redshirting, but I still consider him a 2025 recruit considering that is when he will first officially suit up).
Oliogu is a consensus four-star prospect via 247Sports, as a 6’6” SG/SF from Ontario Canada, now playing at William Academy in Canada. He spent last year in the Overtime Elite League. Oliogu also represented Canada in the FIBA Americup this summer, where he averaged 10.2PPG, 4.2APG and 2.3RPG, en route to a Bronze medal. Oliogu had 23 points (9/11 shooting) and seven assists in a win over the Dominican Republic to secure the Bronze Medal.
Scouting Report
Per 247’s Adam Finklestein, “Oliogu is a big-bodied wing athlete and downhill creator, who may have enough size, length, and strength to play a similar role as an undersized playmaking forward. He's extremely powerful with a thick build and also an explosive leaper who can rise up to hammer violent dunks.”
Oliogu has seen his ranking bounce around like crazy, and was once the #16 prospect in the class on the 247Sports Composite. His ranking has dropped since, but Oliogu is still seen as a Top-100 prospect in some rankings.
Considering his legitimate athleticism, he is a very high-ceiling prospect, considering his legitimate athleticism – Oliogu already has a college-ready build. He gets downhill very effectively just because he is so quick, and so much stronger than the guys currently guarding him.
His ranking fell because we haven’t seen his skill level develop much in the past year. He is showing improvements as a passer (averaging 4.2 APG in International Play), alongside his slashing ability. His jump shot still needs some time to develop, and he has other areas of his game that he needs to round out (with his quick twitch athleticism and playmaking ability, comes some mistakes).
The potential of a talent like Oliogu is undeniable. He is a great addition to this class, and considering the immense potential he has, as a one-time five-star prospect. Much like next year's entire team, it might take Oliogu some time to develop, but if can become the best version of himself, the sky is the limit.
How He Fits
Efeosa Oliogu joins a stacked five-man 2025 class for Butler. Oliogu projects as a tweener G/F at this level, but I think in the short term he’s more utilized as an SG, considering Butler’s current roster.
G: Azavier Robinson, Efeosa Oliogu
Forwards: Jack McCaffery, Colt Langdon, Jackson Keith
Oliogu also is regarded for his high-motor and willingness to make the effort play, which will fit in well as a part of this incoming class. His skillset should pair well with the size and shooting combinations that both Jack McCaffery and Colt Langdon bring to the table.
What Oliogu Had to Say
Butler hosted Oliogu on a visit in early December, and that visit was what got Oliogu to turn around and commit so quickly. “The moment I got there [Butler] it felt like home.”
Via Joe Tipton and On3 he added, “Coach Matta and his staff were definitely very important in my decision-making. The system they run there is definitely somewhere where I can see myself develop not only basketball-wise but as a person as well”
