Welcome to the 3rd annual House Enterprise Awards for the 2024 NFL Season! For our process, we collected votes from various contributors at the House, then compiled the scores and winners based on a point-rank system. This season had some clear-cut studs who will take home brass, and others who exceeded our own expectations to also earn awards.

2024 House Enterprise Season Award Breakdowns

In no one's right mind did we think we'd get that type of season from Sam Darnold. The former "bust" showed up in a major way on a weekly basis for Minnesota, and proved doubters wrong. He ranked in the top 5 for passing yards (4,319), passing TDs (35), and big time throws (33). Not many people had high hopes for the Vikings this season, and they were in the running for the 1-seed in Week 18. A large part of that is how well Darnold fits into Minnesota's offense, and how he did a great job distributing the ball all season.

MIP (16 votes)

Zack Baun was one of my favorite stories throughout the season. He never really found his footing in New Orleans after being considered a gem in the draft. He led all LBs with 69 stops + TFLs, recorded 1 INT and 3 PBUs, 5 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery, and 16 pressures for a 17.58% pressure rate. He also allowed just 6.94 yards per reception, 4th lowest among all LBs. Vic Fangio found the perfect way to use him, and Zack exceeded all expectations en-route to an All-Pro selection.

DROY (20 votes)

Jared Verse was a man this season. He wasn't just one of the best rookie defenders in the league, he was one of the best defensive lineman this season - period. He recorded 77 pressures and a 15.91% pressure rate, ranking 4th and 7th in the entire NFL respectively. Against true pass sets (non play action, RPOs, or screens), he recorded 55 pressures and a 22.73% pressure rate, which is insane for a rookie to do. He added 35 stops + TFLs, 2 forced fumbles and fumble recoveries, and an 86.2 overall defensive grade, which was the highest amongst all rookies.

OROY (26 votes)

Boy, was I wrong about Jayden Daniels. Despite the metrics, film, and overall makeup of his QB profile, he balled out all season. He was surprisingly most effective throwing between 10-19 yards downfield, where he had a 75.7% adjusted completion rate, and compiled 1,041 yards. This gave him a 94.9 passing grade in this area, trailing only Lamar Jackson. He also was incredible with his deep ball, as he hit 17 passes for 680 yards and 7 TDs. He was just as effective on the ground, totaling 891 yards and 6 TDs. He proved a good chunk of draft analysts wrong, and he still has plenty more room to grow.

TTOY (14 votes)

For the third time in three years, an Eagle takes home the Trench Tyrant award. Lane Johnson was on an island for the vast majority of the season, and stonewalled some of the best pass rushers in the league. He allowed 0 sacks, just 1 QB hit, and an impressively low 2.38% pressure rate allowed. Per PFF, he had no RB or TE help on ~75% of his pass protection reps, and scored a ~0.07 grade over expected when left on an island, both of which led the entire NFL. In the run game, the Eagles averaged 4.55 yards per carry when running to his area, and they had one of the best rushing attacks across the league. He was as lockdown as he always has been.

STPOY (15 votes)

Boswell was a machine this season, and was a bigger reason than expected for why the Steelers won 10 games. Throughout the first 5 weeks of the season, he accounted for 44 of their 92 points, and there were five games where he scored more points than Pittsburgh's offense - in which they went 4-1 in those games. He made 41 of his 44 field goals on the year, including 14 of 17 from 50+, and 19 of 20 from 30-49 yards. He was damn near perfect, and singlehandedly won enough games to get the Steelers into the postseason.

DPOY (18 votes)

Pat Surtain II locked down some of the best receivers in the NFL all season long. Below is a list of how he fared against them (in weekly order):

  • DK Metcalf: 5 targets, 4 receptions, 39 yards

  • George Pickens: 2 targets, 1 reception, 16 yards

  • Mike Evans: 1 target, 1 reception, 8 yards

  • Garrett Wilson: 3 targets, 2 receptions, 24 yards

  • Raiders Receivers: 3 targets, 2 receptions, 24 yards

  • Ladd McConkey: 1 target, 0 receptions, 0 yards

  • Panthers Receivers: 2 targets, 2 receptions, 5 yards, 1 TD

  • Ravens Receivers: 0 targets, 0 receptions, 0 yards

  • Chiefs Receivers: 4 targets, 4 receptions, 20 yards

  • Drake London: 1 target, 0 receptions, 0 yards

  • Raiders Receivers: 8 targets, 5 receptions, 35 yards

  • Jerry Jeudy: 4 targets, 3 receptions, 37 yards

  • Colts Receivers: 4 targets, 2 receptions, 19 yards

  • Chargers Receivers: 3 targets, 3 receptions, 23 yards

  • Ja'Marr Chase & Tee Higgins: 7 targets, 4 receptions, 34 yards

The matchups speak for themselves, he continuously shutdown whomever he faced and was the beacon of the best defense of 2024. With this, he allowed just 20 first downs on 55 targets, went 11.5 snaps per target and 15.8 snaps per reception allowed, and he recorded 4 INTs and 5 PBUs. Absolute dominance from one of the best corners in the game.

OPOY (30 votes)

For the first time in House Enterprise history, we have our first unanimous award winner! Saquon Barkley was far and away the best offensive weapon on the field in 2024. He became the 9th RB in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards, he totaled nearly 2,300 scrimmage yards, and he scored 15 TDs to go with it. He also averaged 5.81 yards per carry, 3.17 yards after contact per carry, forced 76 missed tackles, and recorded 46 carries of 10+ yards. He was a major piece to the Eagles success this season, and was the clear choice for OPOY.

COY (23 votes)

This award was a long time coming. Dan Campbell has completely transformed the Lions from a laughing stock into a Super Bowl contender. Through his Grit philosophy and getting his players to buy into it, the Lions have become one of the most feared teams in the NFL on both sides of the ball - even with most of their defensive starters being hurt for chunks of the season. Detroit finished 2nd in scrimmage yards, 1st in points scored, 5th in least rushing yards allowed, and 7th in points allowed - a true testament to the culture Campbell has instilled.

MVP (23 votes)

This was the closest MVP race we've had yet. Both QBs had extraordinary seasons, but Josh just beat out Lamar by the slimmest of margins (one 1st place vote to be exact). I can't speculate on why others voted the way they did, but from my perspective, Josh Allen didn't have nearly as much help as Lamar did. Heading into Week 18, Allen did not have a 1,000 yard receiver or rusher, and his defense was in the middle of the pack for most of the season. For Josh himself, he put up 4,262 scrimmage yards and 246 total points - which accounted for 72.90% of his teams total yardage and 48.33% of his teams total points respectively. He had his best year yet, and takes home the House MVP for 2024.
