Jack McCaffery Commits to Butler

Four-star F Jack McCaffery announced he was committing to Butler on Monday afternoon. This one had been long rumored and is more good news for Butler's 2025 Recruiting Class. McCaffery chose the Bulldogs over Iowa, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

McCaffery played his AAU Ball with D1 Minnesota 3SSB and plays his High School ball at Iowa City West, in Iowa City, where he will be entering his senior season.

As I tweeted above, McCaffery is the highest-ranked recruit in Butler's program history. He overtook Khalif Battle to hold that title, who averaged 15PPG at Arkansas last season. It's hard to overstate how important this addition is for the Bulldogs.

What McCaffery brings to the Table

McCaffery is regarded as one of the best shooters in this class. He has an excellent jumper, and his passing ability really stood out on tape. He can see over the defense and make pinpoint passes, which often lead to easy buckets. He also can get a rebound and find his guards in transition with excellent outlet passes. He makes these very difficult passes look routine.

McCaffery played a lot with his back to the basket and showed off some effective footwork. He uses that footwork to get looks around the rim or find space to knock down his post fadeaway.

McCaffery profiles as a stretch four going forward. But to play the four in this league, he will have to add some muscle to his frame. Sometimes opposing teams could bully him off his spots. Improving his strength and foot speed will go a long way as he continues to develop in his career.

It's not easy to find prospects with the skillset McCaffery has. Legit 6'8" size, excellent jumper, with a high release point. His passing ability for a big is something special, and will certainly be utilized well by this staff. As McCaffery grows into his frame, I think he will have a huge role for the Bulldogs going forward.

McCaffery's Words

McCaffery had this to say about joining the Bulldogs this season, via Joe Tipton:

“I think we have a chance to build a really, really nice 2025 class. I know Colt (Langdon) is going in now to redshirt but I think there is a couple of other pieces that we’re going to get. It’s going to be a fun next couple of years at Hinkle so I’m excited and hopefully the fans are too. Go Dawgs!”

McCaffery also mentioned his relationship with the coaching staff and how persistent they were in recruiting him in the same article, linked here.

2025 Class

The Bulldogs are continuing their momentum in the vital 2025 class, and some names to know to round out this class are featured below

All four of these players have scheduled visits to Butler:

Omari Witherspoon is visiting Butler on 9/13. Christian Jeffrey will be at Butler the day after on 9/14. Stink Robinson will be visiting from 9/26-9/28. Dezmon Briscoe has unofficially visited Butler in the past, and will again be visiting from November 1-3, per his high school's Twitter page.

Butler currently has three scholarships open for the 2025-26 season. This is an excellent start to this recruiting class, which should build momentum for the future.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm starting to think Butler, as of 7/29, has the sixth-ranked recruiting class for the Class of 2025.
