Met Life: Three yays and three nays - Week 1 verse the Cowboys. What an atrocious performance.

Words cannot describe the sickness and embarrassment of that game. Hand up, I was wrong. I thought the Giants were going to come out there and prove people wrong, instead, they just became the laughing stock of the NFL. Not a single point was scored, are you kidding me? That was some of the worst football I have ever witnessed. Watching it was brutal, looking at it after just stings.

I now have to sit and face the music. People are laughing at the Giants for signing Daniel Jones to $160 millions. He wasn't perfect, but don't blame the loss all on him. I don't know how you come back from this, but you have to. Daboll and Schoen have a lot to think about tonight.

As for me, I think how I am going to approach this year of the Giants blogs are yays and nays. What I liked, what I didn't like, what looked good, and what didn't. Unfortunately for this week, there are more nays than yays, but we are going to stick with three as I sulk in silence and defeat.

Three Yays

The first drive was so promising

They way the game started, I thought this team was ready to cook. They began at their own 25, drew up 11 plays, burned 7 minutes off the clock, and were down to the Cowboys own 8 yard line. The run game looked well, and then the wheels completely fell off. They should have returned to that game plan, but they didn't. So if they focus on the run game, things will flow nicely.

The defense showed some positives

Yes, the score doesn't reflect it, but they did hold Dan Prescott to 143 passing yards. The rookies in the secondary, Deonte Bank and Tre Hawkins III, have some work to do, but they held their own for the most part.

Darren Waller and Saquon Barkley will be the keys for this team to succeed.

Waller caught three passes for 36 yards in his Giants debut. Barley had 12 carries for 51 yards. If these two can get the opportunities, then this offense can see a spark. However, that can't happen unless the surrounding pieces of the offense step up, mainly the line and Jones. In terms of offense, it wasn't pretty, but there were some decent stats. The Giants converted 14 first downs (in comparison to the Cowboys 18). They were 3-for-5 on 4th down conversions and rushed for 108 yards total. Building blocks.

Three Nays

The Offensive Line is a problem

Daniel Jones was sacked seven times tonight. He was pressured the entire time, which made him miss throws and make mistakes. Evan Neal doesn't look like he improved this offseason. They couldn't open up many lanes for the run, nor opportunities for the passing game. They need to add veteran help ASAP or this season is a wash before it starts.

Daniel Jones can't generate anything in the passing game because of it

The quarterback had to run for a career-high (regular season) 13 times tonight because he had no protection whatsoever. The pocket collapsed and he had to scramble. Because of that, none of his new weapons had the change to generate the passing game, resulting in the crumbling of the offense.

Overall Sloppiness

Things were looking bleak after the first round of mistakes. A low snap by Schmitz on third-and-seven led to a 14-yard loss. It got worse on the next play, a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown. From there, all confidence was thrown out the window. 5 fumbles, special team mishaps, it was just terrible football all around. If this team is going to overcome adversity, then they need to have short term memory. They were playing catch-up all night, which resulted in even worse play.
