Mets sign Jose Quintana to 2 year/$26 million dollar deal

Yesterday the Mets lost Taijuan Eickoff, sorry I mean Taijuan Walker. He decided to sign with an NL east rival, the Phillies on a 4 year/$72 million dollar deal.

This morning, the Mets signed Jose Quintana to a 2 year, $26 million dollar contract. Quintana is a 33 year old lefty who split last season between the Pirates and Cardinals going a combined 6-7 with a 2.93 ERA.

This is a solid signing, but he cannot be our #3 guy. He is a perfect replacement for Walker, actually he's an upgrade, but he isn't good enough to be a #3. Taijuan Eickoff's would crumble every single year after the All Star break. If you look at his numbers pre and post All Star break, it's absolutely insane. We need to go for Kodai Senga or resign Bassit.

Here is Taijuan Eickoff's numbers post all star compared to 2022 Eric Fedde.

This signing shouldn't impact if we can sign Senga. However, with Bassit, it was reported that he was looking for a 3-4 year deal and the Mets were hesitant on the amount of years.

The Mets are definitely not done spending. Their current payroll currently clocks in around $298 million after the new signings of Senga and Verlander. I am also interested to see what will happen with Brandon Nimmo. I would really like the Mets to resign him because there aren't any better options out there.

Go get Senga NOW Uncle Stevie!
