New York Mets win in dramatic fashion, eliminate the Milwaukee Brewers to move on to NLDS

Wow. The Cardiac Mets do it again.

After giving up back-to-back homeruns to Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead, things looked bleak for the New York Mets. Vibes were low, the looks on Mets' players face's were that of dejection, and it seemed like our team's Cinderella run had come to a crashing halt.

That is, until Pete Alonso came up in the top of the 9th with two runners on, one out, and all of New York's hopes and dreams on his shoulders. In what could have been Alonso's last at-bat in a New York Mets uniform, he wasn't going to go out like that.

Alonso has been criticized heavily all regular season long. As free agency looms, Alonso didn't have the season he or the fans thought he would. The league leader in homeruns since 2019 didn't look like the Polar Bear that we all know and love. The two sides still haven't come to an agreement for a long-term contract, it seems more than likely that Pete Alonso will be calling another city home next year.

Starling Marte padded the Mets lead later in the inning with a single to right field, scoring Jesse Winker, leading to a 4-2 Mets lead. That would go on to be the final score as the Mets eliminate the Brewers in Milwaukee.

But where Pete plays next year doesn't matter right now. What matters is that the New York Mets live to see another day, and have more playoff baseball ahead of them to worry about above all else. Game 3 of the 2024 NLWC series was Pete Alonso's legacy game. The Mets move on to face the hated rival Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS. Game 1 is Saturday, October 5th at 4:00 PM on FOX.
