It's been a while since we've caught up with our friends at Providence City FC. The summer weeks have cruised by, with some play from here and there, as they set their clocks right for the upcoming BSSL play at the end of August.
For now, the focus has been on the Massachusetts Soccer Champions Cup tournament, and they now eye to win it all next week. The match today took place in Wayland, Massachusetts, and boy was it a scorcher.
90 plus degree heat on hot turf, the Rogues came out looking sharp, scoring three goals within the first twenty minutes. Providence is a well balanced team on the pitch, but their opponent (Fidjus de Burkan) kept them on their toes. But between the miscommunication, mid-game arguments upon themselves and towards the refs, the wheels fell off quickly for FDB, which allowed the Rogues to dominate.
Wilder Arboleda, a former Providence Friar, was the man of the match. He scored four goals with ease today. Taff Wadda, a St. Andrew's and UNC product out of England, netted two goals. Aidan Bagkey tallied one, and their was an own goal that rounded out the scoring to eight.
There was solid play all around from the squad, including strong efforts from Kyle Teixeira and George Gill. Jason Rego, the Club's Owner, mentioned that there were a lot of the key OG members playing today, which resulted in the successful win. He hopes that next week, he can bring back some key members like Danny Monteiro and the Freitas Brothers. However, if the Rogues can come out with dominance like they did today, there is no reason why they can't win it all.
Next up, the Cup Final verse Boa Vista FC. See you on Sunday. #ComeOnYouRogues
