It's the New Year, which means all of your bad picks from 2022 no longer count! Ring in 2023 with some solid picks for Week 17 from Will Tondo and myself.
Basel's ATS 2022: 48-54-3 (3-2 Week 16)
Tondo's ATS 2022: 53-45-6 (3-3 Week 16)
Basel's Week 17 Picks
Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons
Woof, or should I say, tweet. This is the roughest matchup in the "Bird Bowl Series" this season, as both franchises here are having a pretty down year. Go with Falcons -6 here since the Cardinals are hobbled this week.
Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots
Mac Jones is not very good, but without having to go up against Tua today, I think he'll be able to manage a close game here. Patriots -2.5
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I don't know if this is a controversial opinion, but I don't think the Bucs are as bad as their record shows. When they have it together, they could be one of the most talented teams in the league. As long as we get the right Brady, and the right Bucs pass rush today, then I'll lean on Bucs -3.5.
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs
Take Chiefs -12.5, but don't be too proud of betting on such a beatdown.
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
I am not leaving my love for the Lions this year in 2022. The Lions have covered in 7 of their last 8, and the Bears are one of the worst teams to bet on this season. Lions -5.5
Cleveland Browns at Washington Commanders
Surprise, surprise. Even with a QB change, the Browns are still bad. As long as Wentz doesn't turn the ball over, I think Washington will have what it takes to get just a bit closer to clinching a playoff spot. Commanders -1.5
Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
The Vikings rocked Green Bay in Week 1 (a game that, at the time, we thought was an upset), setting up what should have been a big late season rematch. However, since Week 1, these teams have gone in two completely different directions. Look for the reigning NFC North Champs to take this one handily. Vikes +3
Tondo's Week 17 Picks
San Francisco 49ers vs. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders wheels have fallen off, and benching a leader and face of the franchise in Carr does not help their case this week, nor should it motivate them. Davante Adams is pissed, the team is lost, and San Fran is hungry for a playoff run. 49ers -9.5.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans
Do not look now, but the Jags are good?! Trust the process, long live Eric Dunn, and Trevor Lawrence is that dude. The Texans are already looking forward to their No. 1 overall pick, where Jacksonville is controlling their destiny. This is a must-win, and I love the spread, Jaguars -3 is one of my locks of the week.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens
Little AFC North matchup here. Could we see a split here? Maybe? If the spread was more than 2.5 I’d probably take Pittsburgh to cover, but the fact that it’s a home game, and the Ravens need some refining before heading into the playoffs as well as still being in the hunt to clinch the North, I’ll go Ravens -2.5.
Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Giants
Ayyoooo! The New York Giants are controlling their own destiny. Win-and-in, the Giants are here to play and here to prove the doubters wrong. Jeff Saturday ain’t the guy, Nick Foles does have some luck against New York, but he is severely underperforming when he plays. Give me this as my main lock, It is playoff time, Giants -5.5
Los Angeles Rams vs. Los Angeles Chargers
The Battle of LA, but does it even matter? The Rams are dead, the Chargers are locked in the playoffs. Both teams are 9-6 ATS, and it’s a double home game at SoFi. I think the Chargers win, but I’ll go Rams cover +6.5
New York Jets vs. Seattle Seahawks
Mike White is back, but the Jets are on a four-game losing streak. The fact that they are favorites in an away game against the 12th man is surprising. The Seahawks are on the outside looking in for their playoff chances, and are also on a bit of a skid. I don’t like how they are underdogs here, and Geno Smith is playing for his next contract, so give me Seahawks +2.
New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Philly is banged up, but they need vengeance after last week. They haven’t locked up the No.1 seed just yet, despite their historic start. This win counts big time. Also, Andy Dalton is trash and the Saints are toast. Give me Eagles -5.5.
