The slumps and bumps slowly creeped up on the Yankees this past week, after a grueling stretch of games finally came to a close. But honestly, they weren't that apparent.
The rare losing week of the Yankees began with a random trip to Houston which resulted in a 2-1 loss to the Astros. They then flew to Cleveland, where they knocked in two wins against the surging AL Central Guardians, outscoring them 19-5. It then was followed by two losses, one by the Guardians, the next by the Pirates.
The fans filled up PNC Park, their largest turnout of the season, and when they took the the AL Leaders, it was like they won the World Series.
All that doesn't matter after a win like tonight.
6 home runs. 2 Grand Slams. 22 hits. 30 homers for Judge. A 16-0 win. The biggest shutout win in 62 years... You love to go into a big series after a win like that. They truly are the Bronx Bombers.
Everyone was involved. DJ had 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Judge had 3 hits and 4 RBIs. Hicks pinched hit and had 2 hits 4 RBIs. Donaldson, Higgy, and Stanton joined the derby. IKF became the first Yankee to record three or more hits in back-to-back games this season. Heck, even Joey Gallo knocked in a much needed homer.
According to our friend Stanzo, A $1 bet on a Josh Donaldson-Joey Gallo-Kyle Higashioka HR parlay would have paid out at $1,687,525. Incredible.
The offense told the story tonight but hats off to Severino. 6 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 strikeouts, on 88 pitches. He set the tone and
Which leads us to what's next. That's 59-23 record, 14 games ahead of the 2nd place team, their next opponent this weekend. The Bombers head to Boston to take on the Red Sox for a 4 game set. It'll be the first of two series the next week against the Sox and they need to win the majority. Even if they split the series 4-3, they'll still have 11 game lead. I'll be there Saturday, behind enemy lines. Time to win 60 and beyond.
