The Bronx Tales: Baseball's best limps out of the All-Star break dropping two to the 'Stros.

Coming off a short week of glitz and glam after the Yankee All-Stars cruised through the media and showcased their position in the major leagues. Stanton wins the MVP, the Cole family were picture perfect, and team camaraderie was centerstage. It was fun to watch it all.

All that fun was whisked away quickly after today's double header to kick off the second half.

Domingo came back and shit the bed. The offense and pitching were fine, but the Astros were just a step ahead and flat out just a little better. It was a tough pill to swallow. A reality check. At least Judge made the final moments memorable.

What seems to be the competitor for the pennant, isn't a favorable match this season. The Yanks are 2-5 against the Astros this season, and there was never a time that the Yankees had the lead. Their two wins came for Aaron Judge walk offs. Now, they've been close games, but minimal victories.

This two game skid comes off an odd two series the Yankees closed the first half with. They pissed away two games to the Reds, and then proceeded to showcase polar opposite sides of the team verse the Red Sox...

A 5-4 loss, and two wins that combine into a 27-3 display.

Thankfully it was against Boston, because the AL East is still the division to beat. Even with the comfortable 12 game lead, all the teams are .500 or better. The split between 2nd and 5th is a difference of 5 games.

It's a nice view from the top, but it's never a comfortable one. Obliviously the goal is the championship, but celebrate the small wins.

92 games in the books. 64-30 record, with a 12 game lead in the AL East. That's all behind us now. It's the next 68 games that lead us to fall-ball, and the hopes of getting back to the promise land. The end of July leading into August is filled with competition. We've got games against Orioles, Mets (2x), Mariners (2x), Cardinals, Red Sox, and Rays. Not a walk in the park by any means.

This daunting month has already started on the wrong foot. I'll chalk it up to slow start to a busy week, but hopefully this isn't a repeat offender. If so, Cashman has to ask himself if this roster can win a long series against Houston. If not, how do you make that happen?

I'll dive into the trade deadline another time.
