Love them or hate them, you have to admit this is pretty special. For Boston, this is Tom Brady and Big Papi shooting the shit. For LA, this is Kobe and Sandy Kofaux going over their craft. For us New Yorkers, this is what it's all about. Back when New York sports were at their peak. The Captain and his five rings. Eli taking down the Patriots twice in the Super Bowl. Middle school me would be geeking. Actually, scratch that. 25 year old me is hyped for this collab.
Now we know Eli is big in the content game now. He has his own show, he has been a delight on the Manning-Cast with his brother, he's been doing some creative and funny stuff like Chad Powers and partnering with
But Derek Jeter is new to this game. He has always been the cool-cat, with the serious face. The only times I've seen Jeter out of character was his cameo in "The Other Guys", and of course the dating diamond (but that wasn't his doing).
Manning and Jeter were the epitome of New York pedigree. They defined winningness. It was so cool to hear them ask questions, share stories, and dish out words of wisdom that carry weight outside the sports field. It was candid, it was authentic, it was incredible.
It was always a speculation, but I was never sure how much contact they had with each other while they were playing. Obviously both prominent figures in the Big Apple, but hearing that they've chatted and provided congratulations and advice is so cool to hear. Again, 12 year old me is pumping his fists.
I can't wait when we are adults and Aaron Judge and Saquon Barkley are talking shop about their long winning careers in New York. A fan can hope.
