The Curious Case of the Knicks: Life Comes Full Circle. How Kristaps Porziņģis lead us to OG Anunoby

The Knicks are 4-0 in the OG Anunoby era. The addition of his defensive presence combined with the subtraction of RJ Barrett's log jame has resulted in New York taking down two of the top teams in the league, and boasting a perfect record in the new year.

There have been some dark times over the past decade for New York. Botched draft picks, questionable signings, and laughing stock-type performances, but that doesn't matter. True basketball fans are now giving the Knicks their flowers. We have two All-Stars and true power talents in the league with Randle and Brunson. The team has depth and talent across the board, and they are hard-coached by Thibs. They make the playoffs, but now they are geared towards competing in them.

But that's future talking, this blog is about the past. Back in 2015, the Knicks drafted an unfamiliar talent in Kristaps Porziņģis, instead of a perennial talent like Devin Booker. Neither here nor there, KP was touted as a unicorn, and although fans were upset in the beginning, he began to win over everyone. Unfortunately, it never panned out for him in New York, and years later, he is now a vital piece on the rival Celtics.

But when you dissect his trade to the Mavs in the year 2024, you can see that everything truly happens for a reason.

I always thought Marcus Morris, who was a dawg in New York, was the gift that kept on giving, but take it a step further, and it was always OG. Again, it stinks when the Knick's homegrown talent can't be the guiding force, but when you look at this graph with how the team is constructed now, it all comes full circle.
