If the preseason has taught me one thing, it's that I cannot make attachments to any backup player fighting for a roster spot. This year, I made the unfortunate dependency on Chris Streveler and his weekly comeback wins. Down by 4 entering the fourth quarter to the Eagles? Call on Chris Streveler. Losing 16-3 at halftime against the Falcons? Streveler is your guy. Trying to beat your cross-town rival? Better call Streveler.
Streveler, who won the Grey Cup (CFL Championship) in 2019, has bounced around in his few years as an NFL quarterback. Chris started one game for the Arizona Cardinals in 2021, and spent time on the Ravens and Dolphins practice squads before ultimately signing with the Jets on July 26, 2022.
The hope for the Jets is that Streveler will clear waivers and be available to be signed to the practice squad. Until then, the Jets will have to survive with their other quarterback legend, Mike White.
