A move we knew was coming. Joey Gallo has been traded to the Dodgers.
As a fan we all wanted Gallo like we wanted Sonny Gray. Sadly, they didn't pan out. I feel bad for the dude. He grew up a Yankee fan, and finally was playing for a title. He didn't meet the expectations, and it may have broken him.
“Every time I see a Yankees hat, every time I see a Yankees jersey, it’s something I’m going to have to understand. I didn’t play well as a Yankee. I wish I had.” - Gallo
But baseball is a business. Statistically speaking, he was one of the worst offensive Yankees in the history of the team. Gallo in parts of 2 seasons with the team hit an abysmal .159 in 501 PAs. The only other Yankees to ever bat that often and hit lower were both pitchers: Hall of Famer Lefty Gomez (.147) and Jack Warhop (.156). TWO PITCHERS....
All that he had to show for was 25 homers, 194 strikeouts and a .660 OPS. He did take home a Gold Glove last year, but was that more in part with the Rangers? Maybe he would have been better if he didn't take AROD's number, but I digress.
The story is writing itself now. It's Game 7 of the World Series. Andrew Heaney strikes out 12 batters in a row. Tommy Kahnle has 3k's for himself. Joey Gallo hits a Grand Slam to beat the Yankees. The ghost of trades past bite us in the ass.
Cashman at least worked a little magic and landed one of the Dodgers top 15 prospects. AA pitcher Clayton Beeter comes over, and the Dodgers will pay the close to $4M left on Gallo deal. Not bad Cashgod.
I don't even care, I'm more upset about the fire merch we have to take off the site now. Get the ball to the Italians was supposed to be it. At least Rizzo is keeping it 100. On that note, Arrivederci Gallo, we'll see you on the other side.
