The Metropolitan Poll Season 2, Volume 15: Down Goes Wagner!

Welcome back to the Metro Poll! A little late this week, as our House Enterprise coverage was firing on all cylinders for the Big Game. However, as the Rams lifted the Lombardi Trophy, sports fans around the country can rejoice in knowing that the sports world now shifts their eyes almost completely to college basketball. With that in mind, let's see where our College Hoops Digest rank our favorite nine NYC-based teams in this week's Metro Poll.

The Metro Poll-Week 15

With Wagner going down in conference play for the first time this season, the Seahawks take a bit of a dip in this week's poll. In an 80-65 loss to Merrimack College on Saturday, Wagner looked stunned as they were outscored 22-7 in overtime. Alex Morales dropped 14 points and 9 rebounds, but it was not enough to contend with Merrimack stars Jordan Minor and Ziggy Reid, who dropped 21 and 19 respectively. Wagner still holds onto the number one seed in the conference, but by just a game as Bryant continues to surge. Obviously, it's not time to hit the panic button just yet, but the fact that a 12 game win streak couldn't give you a comfortable lead for the top spot in the conference just shows you how brutal mid-major basketball can be.

As for the rest of the poll, Iona rights the ship after a two game losing streak by taking down Monmouth, Hofstra mounts four wins in a row, and St. John's drops another stinker at the Garden against UConn to pretty much cement their 2022 postseason chances. All in all, with exactly four weeks to go until the tipoff of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, things are really heating up for our top NYC-based contenders.

See you next week!
