Happy New Year! We at College Hoops Digest were hoping to bring you an update on some crazy college hoops action in New York, but unfortunately, the Omicron variant had other plans. Here's this week's latest rankings, a breakdown of how these cancellations could affect our Metro schools, and a few of the top games you should check out this week.
The Metro Poll 2021-22, Week 8
Is COVID Hitting Mid-Majors the Hardest?
With over 100 college basketball teams affected by the latest wave of Covid, it's no surprise that plenty of our Metro Poll teams had to miss games this past week due to cases within their opponent's programs or their own. Aside from St. John's, who's got that Big East recognition, and Wagner/Iona, who could win their respective conferences this year, the odds are already stacked against our other 7 teams. At large bids are already hard to come by in conferences like the Colonial, NEC, and A-10, but without games to play and prove yourself to the selection committee, should these teams already be looking forward to next season? Of course, anything can happen in the next two months, but hopefully every team in New York, as well as the rest of the country, can get a fair shake this season.
