The Nats are figuring out the bats?

We’re only nine games in and the Washington Nationals are 3-6, but are finally starting to score some runs at a more consistent clip.

Over the last two days, in back-to-back wins over the Rockies, the Nats have put up 17 runs, the same amount of runs they scored over the first seven games combined.

The pitching has been the biggest issue early in the season for Washington. The Nats are giving up over five runs per game, which is 23rd in baseball in the young season.

Even in Saturday’s win over Colorado, the Nats put up 7 runs and barely held on to win thanks to a 4 run 9th inning by the Rockies. Washington relief pitcher Anthony Banda came out of the bullpen looking for the save and instead allowed 3 runs and did not record a single out.

The bullpen was a known question mark entering 2023, but it’ll need to find a lot more consistency if the Nats are to put together a surprise season.

On offense, a familiar face has been leading the way. Victor Robles is leading the Nats with a .370 average at the plate. Right-fielder Lane Thomas is not far behind, batting .361 with 4 RBI’s.

It’s still early, but for a minute there it looked like Washington was going to freefall to the basement of the league, coming out with a 1-6 record through seven games.

Now, it’s just two wins but it could be just what the Nats need heading into series’ against the Angels and Guardians.
