We're in the midst of NHL Free Agency and the offseason frenzy of hockey. But last week, the NHL draft took place. The Vancouver Canucks were on the clock with the 80th pick and they drafted Elias Petterson, a defenseman from Orebro HK in the SHL.
He'll be joining the likes of J.T. Miller, Quinn Hughes, and Elias Pettersson. Yes, Elias Pettersson. The 5th overall pick in the 2017 draft, 2019 Calder Memorial Trophy winner, and 2x All-Star.
Now this isn't the first time the Canucks have found a crack in the simulation. It's the second time in the history of the NHL that a team has featured two players with the same name. They did it back in 1988 when the had two Greg Adams.
Okay, coincidence? Maybe, but whoever is managing the sports simulation the past two years is definitely fired by now. They're acting up.
The Jets drafted TWO Michael Carter's in the 2021 draft. 4th round running back out of North Carolina, and 5th round defensive back out of Duke. Born two months apart and share similar size. Okay, another coincidence, but now it gets freakier.
The Oakland Athletics drafted Max Muncy with the 25th pick. Back in 2012, the 2x All-Star and World Series Champ with the Dodgers, Max Muncy, was selected in the 5th round by the A's.
They both share the same birthday, August 25th. Now what the hell.
