The trouble in Calgary: Matthew Tkachuk informs the Flames that he won't be re-signing with the team

Let me preface this article by saying; what a dumpster fire offseason it's been for the Calgary Flames organization and their fans. After losing superstar Johnny Gaudreau to the Columbus Blue Jackets in free agency, it appears as if Calgary is going to lose their next best player.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that restricted free-agent, Matthew Tkachuk, would not be signing a long-term deal with the Calgary Flames. Multiple sources close to the situation have stated that a trade for the Flames right winger will be the most likely outcome after the initial news report from The Athletics Jeremy Rutherford and Hailey Salvian dropped.

Inside Rutherford and Salvian's report, the two state that Tkachuk has submitted a list of teams that he would be open to signing a long-term contract with. The St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Dallas Stars are among the teams on Tkachuk's list.

A bad time to be a Calgary Flames fan, as the team finished in first place in the Pacific Division last season with 111 points. Now, within a matter of months, it seems as if the powerhouse Flames are nearing a rebuild.

Keep in mind, that Tkachuk is now a restricted free-agent and still needs a contract, and it'll be a big one. So that may deter many NHL GM's from seeking a trade for the 24-year-old forward.

Tkachuk posted career numbers last season, with 104 points on 42 goals and 62 assists.

It has only been exactly one week since the start of NHL free-agency, and already this offseason is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in recent memory.
