A common theme for the brewery owners we have on the podcast is their start. They weren't happy with their "9-5's", they began home brewing, friends liked their beers, they started a brewery, and the rest is history.
This interview might be the first ever that the home brewing happened by accident.
Chirag Vyas and Kevin Chipman took a plunge out of their comfortable jobs in the United States and packed their bags for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Not with the mission of starting a brewery, but a goal of unwinding and finding themselves.
Their journey lead them to bussing tables at local bars and sleeping aboard an abandoned sailboat for $250 a month. As time went on, the two weren't as fond to the local beer present in St. John's and decided to try making their own.
After positive reviews and lasting connections they made while hustling in the Resturant industry, this hobby transformed into something much larger. 15 years later, St. John’s Brewers is one of the most popular Caribbean-area breweries. Chirag and Kevin explain their decision to move out of the US, their hardships of early life on the island, how they grew into a popular brand for locals and tourists, and now their venture into the cannabis space.
