The MLS All Star squad was announced on Tuesday with two players from D.C. United getting selected for the team.
Forward Christian Benteke and Goalkeeper Tyler Miller will represent the Black-and-Red at the MLS All Star Game on Wednesday July 19, as the MLS All Stars take on English Premier League side, Arsenal, at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
Benteke and Miller are two of 26 players who made the squad, both being personally selected by D.C. United Manager, Wayne Rooney, who will manage the MLS All Stars against Arsenal.
Both players are in their first full year as a member of the club. Benteke arrived in D.C. in August while Miller joined the team in November.
In 2023, Benteke has been a standout striker, netting 8 goals in 19 games, which is tied for 8th among all players in MLS.
The 32-year-old Benteke spent 2012-2022 in the English Premier League, playing for Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Crystal Palace, before making the move stateside. In his time in England, Benteke amassed 86 goals and was one of the more consistent strikers in the league, with his best year coming all the way back in 2012-13, when he netted 19 goals for Aston Villa.
Tyler Miller has started 20 games for D.C. United and has kept six clean sheets in those 20 games, which is tied for 5th in MLS, while being tied for 1st among all goalkeepers in total minutes played in 2023.
The 30-year-old out of Woodbury, NJ has been in MLS since 2016, spending time with the Seattle Sounders, LA FC, and Minnesota United before joining D.C. United in November.
This will be both Benteke’s and Miller’s first MLS All Star appearance.
