For all of us East Coast fans waking up to see Kevin Durant getting traded to the Suns, that's just the tip of the iceberg of one of the craziest NBA trade deadlines in recent history.
The rumor mill started weeks ago, with some big names potentially on the block. We watched Kyrie go to another team, and Russell Westbrook getting shipped out of Los Angeles, but today became an absolute frenzy of social media posts from the dynamic duo of Sham and Woj.
Everyone has been talking about the Rizz-God Shams, and his recent antics trying to seal the deal with Kay Adams, and Woj took that personally. The OG Insider has been on an absolute tear, but that's neither here nor there. So what the hell actually just went down?
Biggest Moves and Surprises
Obviously Kyrie Irving requesting a trade and then getting paired up with Luka was probably going to be the biggest name dealt at the deadline. Mat Ishbia just got approved to be the new Phoenix's Owner and quite literally said "hold my beer". He swong for the fences in his first move and landed Kevin Durant without giving up any of his stars. If the Mavs and Suns meet up in the playoffs, buckle up.
The Lakers also blowing up their roster in hopes to achieve a playoff run was worth noting. They went from no-tradeable assets, to moving on from Westbrook AND retooling their roster with guys like DLo, Vanderbilt, and Mo Bamba. LeGM and Pelinka are cooking up something.
It was interesting that the Cavs and Heat didn't make any major moves to help improve their Eastern Conference pursuits. The Bulls stood pat with their roster construction, and the wild west contenders like the Grizzlies and Kings kept it quiet. Also, some of the bigger names (OG Anunoby, Fred VanVleet, Zach LaVine, and John Collins) didn't get dealt.
The theme of the day was 2nd round picks. They were getting tossed around the entire league. It is worth noting that in a few years, high school players will be eligible for the draft. A lot of draft capital for some young players in the neat future.
