It was perhaps the biggest home game in a decade last Sunday for Washington, and the Commanders held a 24-14 lead over Pittsburgh early in the second half, before the Steelers outscored Washington 14-3 the rest of the way.
Steelers Quarterback Russell Wilson tossed three touchdown passes, including the eventual game-winner to Mike Williams with 2:22 to go to put Pittsburgh on top for good.
The Washington offense had the ball at midfield just a minute later, but failed to convert on a 4th and 9 as Zach Ertz fell half-a-yard short of a first down. The Commanders never got the ball back.
With the loss, the Commanders fall out of first place in the NFC East for the first time in over a month, but have no time to wallow. On a short week, Washington heads to Philadelphia to take on the new division front-running Eagles in a game where the winner will sit atop the division at its conclusion.
Rookie Quarterback Jayden Daniels has quieted down just a bit over the last month, throwing just two non-Hail Mary touchdown passes over the past four games while failing to have a rushing touchdown since the Week 4 win in Arizona.
On Thursday Night in one of the league’s most hostile environments with the division lead on the line, Daniels will have to be at or near his best for Washington to come out on top.
On defense, Head Coach Dan Quinn has kicked his team into gear over the last month, showing tremendous improvement from early in the season and especially from last year.
The Eagles boast a dynamic offense with a myriad of weapons, including Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and Saquon Barkley.
It’ll be one of the toughest tests yet for Washington on Thursday, and we’ll learn a lot about this team’s chances not only in the division race for the NFC East, but its long-term playoff chances and if this group is ready to win in January.
Head Coach: Nick Sirianni (4th season, 41-19 record in Philadelphia)
Record: 7-2 (2-0, 1st in NFC East)
Last Time Out: Won @ Dallas 34-6 on 11/10/24

What was a very shaky start to the season for the Philadelphia Eagles has now transformed into a five game winning streak and one of the better seasons that any team in the NFL is having up to this point.
Head Coach Nick Sirianni sits firmly on the hotseat, mainly due to the exuberant amount of talent he has at his disposal, and a serious amount of coaching gaffs his team has endured, often winning games despite their head coach’s best efforts.
Nonetheless, the Eagles are now at the top of the NFC East with a chance to extend the lead on Thursday Night if it can take down Washington.
Since a Week 4 thrashing against Tampa Bay, Philly has ripped five wins in a row over Cleveland, the Giants, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Dallas. Although it hasn’t been against the stiffest competition and hasn’t been without its unconvincing nature at times, wins are wins and a division lead is a division lead.
A huge reason for the Eagles success is the re-emergence of running back Saquon Barkley.
In his first year with Philadelphia, Barkley has rushed for 991 yards (2nd in the NFL), and 6 touchdowns in nine games, averaging 110 yards per game.
Besides Barkley, A.J. Brown seems to be the Eagles’ most important player. Philly hasn’t lost when Brown has played (6-0) and he is currently 4th in the NFL in receiving yards per game.
With the weapons that Philadelphia possesses on offense, any opponent will be hard-pressed to slow them down when they’re all healthy.
On Thursday, it’s a golden opportunity in front of Sirianni and the Eagles to take control of the NFC East and win its sixth straight game.
